Attendees:
- Janice

- David
- Chris D
Notes:
This is the second meeting of the board during the pandemic. Many aspirations of the NYC board, such as events, fundraiser and gardening, were put on hold as a result of the pandemic. As a result, meetings have become less frequent. However there are some “re-opening” activities occurring in New York state so NYC planning is ramping back up. Plans for fall events in Naples are still unknown.
- We agreed that despite the lite turnout for this meeting we have a quorum, based on the NYC bylaws.
- The board discussed the need to cut the grass. David was going to try it with his mower and report back on this success or lack thereof.
- The board discussed the vehicular traffic on the site.
- We voted unanimously to block traffic using a chain across the south opening of the fence.
- A next step is to find a suitable chain, discuss how it is locked and execute the plan.
- The board discussed signage on the property.
- We agreed that signage should be welcoming and informative. “Restoration underway,” is a phrase Janice suggested.
- Matt suggested also possibly adding the link to the web site where people can learn more, supporting brevity.
- The existence of the chain negates the need to inform people not to park, since vehicular access will not be possible.
- A next step is for board members to reach out to the community to consider signage options. We will contact Chris A, who volunteered to create a sign.
- The board discussed the status of the west border landscaping.
- Chris reported that there will now be a cost associated with excavating gravel. There is also a larger than anticipated cost of backfilling the gravel we plan to remove. We are expecting a bid from both Steve Richards and David’s contractor.
- We agreed that approaching the school board for funding would be a good idea. NYC has made donations of land use to the school in past without charging rent. We also allowed the gravel to be placed on the property and waved the obligation to restore the property to grass. Chris D will approach the Board of Education in their next meeting.
- The board discussed the use of the property for the graduation chicken BBQ track team fundraiser that Matt proposed. We agreed to grant use of the property free of charge.
- NYC has no obligation to involve itself in the management or staffing of the event. That will be supplied by the track team. Individuals are welcome to volunteer if help is needed and can work with Matt on that.
- The property will only be used for cooking and organizing the serving of food. Customers will line up along Academy street and pick up their means. Chris inquired with Frank M about wither this is a problem. Frank noted that it is a law enforcement issue rather than a village/town issue. It did not sound like it would be a problem.
- We discussed the possibility of outdoor dining. This would require supervision. We made no firm decision about whether to allow it.
Proposed time for next meeting: June 29, 6:30 PM. Board members should confirm their attendance or suggest a different time by June 12.
